The 50th Anniversary Honda VFR
Back in the 1960s Honda race bikes used racing colours of an aluminium fairing with a yellow flash and a red petrol tank and seat hump.
A few years ago I had the rare opportunity to sit atstride Mike Hailwood's 1961 TT winning Honda RC162 250cc bike at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu.
Honda prodcued a number of "50th Anniversary models to celebrate their Golden Jubilee in 1998. Some such as the ST1100 Pan European were a special colour but the VFR800 version was a celebration of the racing history of Honda and the Isle of Man..
The front failing was silver to replicate the original aluminium fairings and caries the distinctive yellow flash. The tank is red and sportss the 1960s vinatge Honda "wing" on the side. Two silver stripes represent the steel straps used to hold the tank on the old race bikes. And the red single seat hump is reminiscent of the old racing seat cowl. The bike carries special 50th Anniversary badges and has a 50th Anniversary keyring.
