Our Motorcycles & Holidays
We have threeVFRs in the family, a 1999 VFR800 50th Anniversary Edition, a 1989 VFR750FJ and a 1987 VFR400RH (NC24) plus a 1998 ST1100AW Pan European fitted with Traction Control, ABS and Linked brakes.
After Bill passed the IAM Advanced Motorcycling Test following tuition from Edinburgh & District Advanced Motorcyclists (aka EDAM) in 1994 the VFR750 replaced an elderly CX500. The VFR750 was chosen for its reputation as a sports/tourer and as the world's best all-round bike.
The Pan joined the "stable" for 2003 for longer distance touring, the VFR750 remaining for shorter trips.
Ewen purchased the VFR400 after passing the IAM Test on an elderly CB400F.
Bill & Jill having toured the UK for many years took up serious touring in 2000.
In 2000 we did a Coast-to-Coast trip on a rented 1500 Goldwing
In 2001 we were encouraged to organise a trip for fellow members of EDAM (the local IAM Bike Group) to Plockton. This has been so successful that it has been repeated every year since!
In 2001 we took the VFR750 to Vienna (Wien), Budapest & Prague.
In 2002 Ewen graduated and we went to Florida (no biking trip)
In 2003 joined Bob Crawley of Bike Ecosse for a trip to the Alps on the ST1100 Pan European.
In 2004 we joined members of the Pan Clan for trip to Sweden and added a few days in Copenhagen.
In 2005 we went to Orkney with the Pan Clan and having passed through John O'Groats (the most northerly point in the country) the following month we went to the other extremity at Lands End.
In 2006 we joined Bob Crawley of Bike Ecosse for a trip to the Schutzenfest in Bodefeld and to the Picos de Europa in Northern Spain.
In 2007 we travelled to near Vienna for the Pan European Owners Gathering.
In 2008 we spent a fortnight in Norway, taking in the Pan European Owners Gathering, and returning on the very last Bergen to Newcastle ferry.
In 2009 we spent a fortnight in Germany touring the Leipzig nad Elbe valley area before attending the Pan CGathering in the Harz Mountains.
In 2010 after a wedding in Atlanta we had 11 days in the Appalachians touring the Blue Ridge Parkway and sampling the delights of the two best biking roads in the USA - Deals Gap and the Snake
