DAYs 38 - 39 Monday 28th February - Tuesday 1st March
While the temperatures remained low and there were a few snow showers it was possible to make some progress.
On Monday the west roof was felted with Jim Graham our roofing contractor starting work.
But an attempt to complete the east roof sarking was abandoned on Tuesday when to the weather deteriorated.
The external doors and ground floor windows were delivered but the garage doors were still a week away.
Our roofing contractor Jim Graham was standing by but he was a bit short of material as his supplier had invoiced him for 3000 tiles and delivered 300.
DAY 40 Wednesday 2nd March
The big 40 and the team were back on the job.
The door lintels on the east side were made up and the pit for the bike lift was finished.
And the east roof sarking was completed and the seven Velux windows installed.
The external doors and ground floor windows were delivered but the garage doors were still a week away.
Jim Graham's roof tile supplier was due to deliver the balance of the roof tiles but only the ridge tiles appeared.
DAYs 41 & 42 Thursday 3rd & Friday 4th March
With the roof all felted and the tile battens in place on Thursday everything rested on the tiles arriving.
Friday and the tiles finally arrived :-)) A busy day going up an down ladders soon had the roof looking ready for tiling.
Meanwhile Davie was busy on windows and doors.
DAYs 43 & 44 Monday 7th & Tuesday 8th March
Jim "It would be much easier without the windows" Graham and his long serving apprentice John started on the tile laying
Much effort had gone into getting the alignment of the battens correct so that the not totally square lines of the original building could be masked.
Meanwhile Davie was having a bad day with the the patio door frame.
DAYs 45 - 47 Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th March
With the windows out of the way the east roof was completed.
And the doors and windows were completed.
DAYs 48 to 50 Monday 14th to Wednesday 16th March
With John off on a stag weekend in Majorca they had worked on Saturday to ensure the west roof was complete by Wednesday.
Meanwhile the roughcasters were making good progress on the blockwork constructed west wall, but were finding the old stone east wall more of a challenge.
DAYs 51 to 52 Thursday 17th & Friday 18th March
The day had come to open up the old cupboard and make our new opening between the existing house and the renovated area. To allow a set of french doors to eventually be installed the opening had to be made wider and this involved the installation of six steel beams to support the wall above the new opening.
EXTRA DAYs Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March
Aided by Ewen and Alison we installed the firerpoof plasterboard for the garage roof and then two the Harman garage doors.
The LTU40 series door are double skinned with 40mm of insulation. Strong springs counterbalance the significant weight of these doors.
DAYs 53 to 57 Monday 21st to Friday 25th March
On Monday Mr Jim McGregor from East Lothian Council Building Control visited for an inspection. With a couple of minor corrections the build was passed.
The rest of the week was a quiet week as the harling dried. On Friday, after several phone calls, the scaffolders finally arrived to remove the scaffold and reveal the building in it's new glory.
