Up to the AGA install

Slow progress in 2007 into 2008

Something called work intervened and it pretty much slowed down until 2008.

We did manage to get the hall painted, the door on the right is into the garage and the wooden doors are for the bike gear cupboard which was fully kitted out.

Electric underfloor heating in this area ensures somewhere warm to put the feet when removing the bike boots.

Spring 2008 - progress at last.

Some progress had also been made on the new bedroom but this now reached completion and was plastered

And from the bedroom the work moved forward into the mezzanine area which will eventually overlook the kitchen

Then it moved to the downstairs hallway where walls were built and the underfloor heating installed and floor tiled

With the hallway and stair well being plastered at the same time as the bedroom this allowed us to order our stairs.

On a major renovation contract Ewen had used a joinery company who are specialists in custom woodwork. They built us a staircase in mahogany looks very nice. We will get it French polished for a spectacular effect

The plaster is well dried in the bedroom and a session with a paint brush and the bedroom looks much more presentable.

Winter 2008/09 produced good progress

The kitchen fit out produced a few problems as the walls were not square. Eventually we built the internal wall of the gable end at right angles to the west wall to make fitting a kitchen much easier.

Two more plastering sessions and the kitchen is transformed from a shell into something that can be viewed as a potential room.

Two remote openers allow the windows to be easily opened, and will close them automatically if it rains.

The chimney has been lined with a steel flue for the AGA which exits near the apex of the room.

In the kitchen the two tone green paint scheme is finished. The polished chrome electrical fittings installed and the lighting in place. A very nice Sistema fitting will provide lighting over the Aga and also over the table in the centre of the room.

Upstairs the steel roof support is boxed in and the balustrade fitted to the mezzanine.

Next was the base for the Aga, finished in black granite and the oil supply, raised up as the Aga is gravity fed.

Then on 12th June 2009 two nice technicians from Aga, wee Ronnie and big Malcolm, turned up in their shinny black vans and built an Aga.

Joining it up to the flue which we had built and the Aga was fired up.

A lot of tidy up work took up the autumn but by late November the underfloor heating was in place.
